Celebrate World Listening Day with a soundwalk hosted by the SFU Teaching and Learning Centre and Dr. Milena Droumeva of the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology.
The purposes of World Listening Day are to:
* Celebrate the listening practices of the world and the ecology of its acoustic environments;
* Raise awareness about the growing number of individual and group efforts that creatively explore Acoustic Ecology based on the pioneering efforts of the World Soundscape Project, World Forum for Acoustic Ecology, La Semaine du Son, Deep Listening Institute, among many others;
* Design and implement educational initiatives that explore these concepts and practices.
This year’s theme for World Listening Day is “Sounds Lost and Found.”
What is a soundwalk?
‘A soundwalk is any excursion whose main purpose is listening to the environment. It is exposing our ears to every sound around us no matter where we are.’ – Hildegard Westerkamp

Where do we start?
Please meet on July 18th at the SFU Teaching and Learning Centre in the Education Building
(EDB) 7560 in Burnaby, BC.
What time?
Please arrive at the Centre for 2pm sharp!
Agenda:
2:00pm-2:15pm – Welcome and opening remarks from Dr. Milena Droumeva
2:15pm-3:00pm – Soundwalk on Burnaby Campus
3:00pm-4:00pm – Post-walk discussion at the Renaissance Coffee AQ
Participants are encouraged to bring their recording equipment for capturing sound.
