I recently came across the news that the Metropolitan Museum of Art has released 400,000 high-res images that are free for non-commercial use. There are a great many images here that could prove very useful for educational purposes. I’m definitely excited about these great images- and will be using this site as a resource for sure! Some highlights:Ā Photography collection, andĀ Modern and Contemporary Art.

Just be sure to use images that have this icon underneath it :Ā Open Access for Scholarly Content (OASC) Icon. You’ll see it when you click to look at the image at full size.

This icon identifies images that are available to be used as part of theĀ Open Access for Scholarly Content (OASC) initiative. These are the ones you can use for educational purposes.

When you cite the work you must include Ā “The Metropolitan Museum of Art”, Ā the specific information identified as the “Credit Line” on theĀ CollectionĀ page for each work of art and the URL www.metmuseum.org. Please see the example above.

If you have more questions, please check out the FAQ section of the MET site.
